The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has announced Castle Lite as the title sponsor of the National Basketball League.

The partnership that will see Castle Lite sink 500 million Uganda shillings into the league was officially announced during a press briefing held on Thursday morning at Fairway Hotel in Kampala.

Douglas Karema, a Marketing Executive at Nile Breweries, expressed excitement about Castle Lite’s getting into basketball, highlighted Nile Breweries commitment to supporting various sports disciplines across Uganda.

“Nile Breweries is the biggest sponsor of Sport in Uganda; we sponsor football, rugby, pool and now basketball. Basketball is going to be sponsored by our brand which is Castle Lite for one year which is renewable depending on the how it performs. The value of the sponsorship is 500 million,” Karema said.

Of the 500 million Uganda shillings Castle Lite has injected into the National Basketball League, 200 million is direct cash to FUBA.

It was revealed that a portion of the funds will be distributed to clubs competing in the National Basketball League with the league champion assured of prize money.

“Team owners carry a lot of weight, it’s a very hard task to get into the pocket to run a basketball team.

“So, part of our resources that we have been able to gather will go to clubs. We will sit down as the (FUBA) executive and agree on how we can ease that pressure of the clubs with some of this money.

“We understand that if we are to grow this sport, some of what we make we should be able to give you the clubs and make your work easier to run the club each single day,” said Marcus Kwikiriza, the CEO of FUBA.
