Nile Special Rugby (Men’s) Championship – Round 10

Result: Heathens 67-10 Impis

The signs were there.

The previous day when the team sheets were released, a brief look at them showed that while Heathens had named a strong starting fifteen and an even stronger bench, Impis, on the other hand, were yet to field a consistent squad and combinations therein for at least three successive matches.

But it is important to provide context, for Impis’ sake. They are in a rebuilding phase this season having lost a huge chunk of their squad in the transfer window. For this match, only nine of the twenty-three players had featured in Impis’ most recent visit to Kyadondo.

On the day, during the Reserve Championship in the early kick-off, Heathens II left Impis II for dead when they beat them by a humongous 102-05 points victory.

It goes without saying, therefore, that when a strong senior Heathens ran on at home against a handicapped Impis, the result could only go one direction.

Heathens put sixty-seven points past the Makerere side who could only manage ten. If anything, it could have been worse. One try was chalked off because of a forward pass in the build-up and multiple other scoring opportunities went begging because of Heathens’ handling errors.

Lawrence Sebuliba scored a hat trick of tries and Michael Wokorach and Joseph Oyet bagged a brace each. Patrick Okello, Charles Uhuru, Malcolm Okello, and Cyrus Wathum also joined in on the try-fest.

Ariho Muhumuza scored Impis’ lone try of the match. The other points – a conversion and a penalty – all came off Stallone Arinaitwe’s boot.

Thus, table-topping Heathens stayed on course for a flawless regular season with one round left to play while Impis just about managed to maintain tenth-place by virtue of points difference.
