Masindi Municipal stadium – 4pm

Table leaders Kitara shift focus to the Premier League following their first leg triumph over Pajule Lions in the Uganda Cup over the weekend.

They host rivals Mbarara City in the highly anticipated Western derby on Wednesday at Masindi aiming to pick maximum points that will keep them on top regardless of results on Wednesday.

The Royals overcame Express FC in the last minutes last week to return to the top and are aware that any mistake could cost them the top spot.

“We play a team we have never beaten in Mbarara City and being derby makes the game even more difficult,” said Kitara captain Maxwell Owachigiu.

The hosts have several Ankole Lions in their ranks including Brian Aheebwa, Paul Mucureezi, Jasper Aheebwa, Dudu Ramadhan, Solomon Okwalinga and Jude Ssemugabi which spices up the clash as they will be desperate to hurt their former pay masters.

Kitara sit top with 47 points while Mbarara City are 11th with 29 points and need at least a point from the remaining matches to confirm safety.

The reverse fixture between the two sides ended in a goalless draw while in 2021, Mbarara City won the 1-0 at Kitara.
