Top 5:

UTC Lira: 6 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze

UTC Elgon: 6 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze

UTC Kichwamba: 3 Gold, 4 Silver, 5 Bronze

UCC Kabale: 2 Gold, 3 Silver, 1 Bronze

UCC Aduku: 2 Gold, 0 Silver, 1 Bronze

The 2024 Intercollegiate games successfully concluded at the Uganda College of Commerce (UCC) Kabale on Friday, 19th April.

A total of 17 institutions took part in the championship that lasted for a week in the different competitions of football, netball, athletics, woodball and mind-games.

UTC Lira and UTC Elgon scooped the same tally of medals; 10.Both institutions had a total of 6 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze.

UTC Kichwamba followed suit with 3 gold medals, 4 silver and 5 bronze.

Hosts UCC Kabale finished with 2 gold medals, 3 silver and 1 bronze. The top five positions were completed by UCC Aduku with 2 gold medals, no silver and 1 bronze.

UCC Packwach, UCC Tororo, Sancta Maria, UCC Soroti and Kabale Bukinda completed the top 10 positions.

UTC Bushenyi, Nakawa VTC, Bulera Core PTC, Kabulasoke were 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th respectively.

Bushenyi TTI, Nakaseke Core PTC and Bishop Stuart Core PTC did not manage to win any medal.

Athletics:

UTC Lira won 24 medals to take gold in athletics. They were followed by UCC Aduku with 13 medals to scoop silver in the sport and UCC Kabale finished third overall with 7 medals for silver.

Football:

UCC Tororo beat UCC Soroti 1-0 to lift the female football title. Proscovia Iteno scored the match winner for UCC Tororo.

The male football final was won by UCC Aduku. The victors overcame UCC Kabale 5-4 in post match penalties after normal time had ended 1-goal apiece.

Woodball:

UTC Kichwamba won the men team gold in woodball. UCC Kabale took silver while UCC Elgon had bronze.

The female team gold went to UCC Kabale, silver to Sancta Maria TTI and bronze for UCC Tororo.

Noah Ssendagire (UTC Kichwamba) won gold for UTC Kichwamba in woodball men.

Alexander Ampeire (UCC Kabale) settled for silver whilst Ronald Lugolobi (Sancta Maria TTI) finished with bronze.

Woodball women had Joan Asiimire (UCC Kabale) with gold, Allen Nabisere (Sancta Maria TTI) with silver and Slyvia Moureen (UCC Tororo) earning bronze.

Mind-Games:

The mind games in the competition included draughts (poolcheckers), chess, Omweso and scrabble.

In Draughts (pool checkers), UTC Kichwamba scooped gold wit 21 points. Bukinda PTC scored 18 points for silver and Bulera PTC had 17 points for the bronze.

Bulera PTC took the bronze on countback despite tying with Sancta Maria TTI and UTC Lira.

In Omweso, UTC Elgon won gold in the men category; with UTC Lira taking silver as Sancta Maria TTI finished with bronze.

For Scrabble; UTC Elgon finished top among the men for the gold. UTC Kichwamba earned silver and UTC Elgon also claimed bronze.

Among the women; UTC Kichwamba won gold and silver with UTC Elgon taking bronze.

The arbiters included Dan Isabirye (President, Mind Sports Association of Uganda (MSAU), President, Uganda Draughts Federation, (UDF)], Joshua Kimuli (Member, MSAU), Elizabeth Nagasha (Member, Scrabble Association of Uganda) and Innocent Kimera, International Chess Arbiter, FIDE and member, Uganda Chess Federation (UCF).

Assistant Commissioner, Physical Education and Sports Sam Odong officiated at the climax of the games held at Kabale Municipal stadium.

The organizing team is yet to decide on the organizer for the 2025 games.
