Busoga United 1-1 SC Villa

NEC 1-0 Kitara

Cromwell Rwothomio scored the winning goal for NEC as they edged table leaders Kitara in a closely contested tie at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo.

With Villa dropping points at Busoga, Kitara knew they had to win to widen the gap between them and the chasing pack.

However, it was NEC who started like a house on fire with Rwothomio forcing a good save from Crispus Kusiima.

The biggest talking point of the first half however was a foul by Jasper Aheebwa on Rashid Okocha on the edge of the area with referee Kimayo booking him just despite him being the last man and denying a goal scoring opportunity to NEC.

Kitara’s biggest opportunity before the break was a free kick by Denis Omedi which Benjamin Ochan parried away.

In the second half, NEC piled more pressure and it paid off when Rwothomio headed home as the Kitara defence watched on carelessly in the 65th minute.

Kitara playing on the counter then had a goal wrongly disallowed after the assistant referee adjudged Jude Ssemugabi to be in an offside position before laying the ball for substitute Frank Zaga.

Ssemugabi then missed a one on one with the keeper late on as he shot just wide of Ochan’s goal.

Despite dropping points, Kitara stay top of the standings with 44 points, four ahead of Villa, NEC and BUL and five ahead of Vipers who take on UPDF on Friday.

Villa and Vipers SC have played two and three games respectively in hand over Kitara and NEC.
