In a statement, Next Media Services Head of Corporate Affairs Desire Derekford Mugumisa confirms being attacked by thugs after leaving the Namboole test games, and his eye was hurt to the point of undergoing surgery.

When Namboole National Stadium was reopened for football lovers to enjoy the beautiful UPL games between Bull Vs Vipers and KCCA Vs Villa on 1st May 2024, some things did not go right at the venue.

Chaos ensued after the game and some people lost their property to thugs. Others were also assaulted in the process.

Next Media’s Desire Derekford Mugumisa fell victim to the thugs who beat him up as he was leaving the venue.

He reveals how he was saved by good samaritans who took him to the hospital and he had to undergo surgery. He is now on the road to recovery.

Confirming what many have heard, I was indeed attacked recently after leaving the Namboole Test Games. My left eye was brutally hurt, and I’ve undergone surgery.

It’s been tough, but I’m on the road to recovery. Surreal journey it’s been – from a clinic for first aid (God bless those Good Samaritans that got me there), to a hospital ICU for monitoring, and then a ward before being referred to another hospital for surgery for corneal repairs et al. The support has been invaluable.
