When the teams now in the playoffs quarterfinals met during the regular season, losing bonus points were picked in their respective matches. They were close matches; so nailbiting and competitive that, in all of them, the lead changed hands repeatedly. Some, as in the case of Heathens and Walukuba, inside the last five minutes.
These are the results from those meetings during the regular season and when they occured:
Round 6: Walukuba 17-21 Heathens
Round 7: Hippos 20-16 Buffaloes
Round 9: Mongers 16-21 KOBs
Round 9: Rhinos 11-17 Pirates
It is crucial to look at the before and after of these meetings because it will go a long way in understanding how the teams rebuild after a close defeat or surge after tough victories.
Because while it was just one leg in the regular season, there will be two legs – home and away – in the playoffs. The championship was already tough enough and now, the margins are even tighter.
