NEC FC became the first team to reach the semifinals of this year’s Stanbic Uganda Cup after eliminating Police FC on Wednesday.

In the quarterfinal encounter played at Kavumba Recreation Ground, the visitors secured a 2-0 win to progress to the next stage.

Cromwell Rwothomio opened the scores in the opening stages of the game before Gadaffi Wahab tucked home fron the spot in the second half to wrap up the victory.

NEC started on a good note, with Rwothomio finding the back of the net just two minutes after kickoff.

Rashid Okocha’s dropping pass was well met by Cromwell with ran between two Police FC defenders before lobbing the ball beyond onrushing goalkeeper Edward Kasibante.

The visitors continued to dominate proceedings and were able to tame Police throughout the game.

Twelve minutes to time, NEC FC were able to double their advantage with Wahab slotting home from the spot after substitute Marvin Kavuma was fouled in the box.

NEC FC will therefore await the winner between Pajule Lions and Pakwach Young Stars FC who play on Saturday to determine their opponents in the semifinals.

The other quartefinal fixtures will see BUL FC hosting KCCA FC while holders Vipers SC visit Kitara FC on Sunday.
