Uganda smashes to women gold in 2024 East Africa Regional Table Tennis Championships

2024 East Africa Regional Table Tennis Championships:

Women Final: Uganda 3-0 Kenya

Jemimah Nakawala (Uganda) 3-0 Lisa Nasimuyu (Kenya): 11-04, 11-06, 11-05

Judith Parvin Nangonzi (Uganda) 3-1 Dorren Juma (Kenya): 04-11, 11-09, 11-03, 11-07

Shanitah Namaala (Uganda) 3-1 Lydia Setey (Kenya): 07-11, 11-09, 11-06, 11-04

Uganda has won the women gold medal in the on-going 2024 East Africa Regional Table Tennis Championship happening at the Lugogo Indoor Arena, Kampala.

Uganda humbled Kenya 3-0 during the final played on table two.

The victorious team had the likes of Jemimah Nakawala, Judith Parvin Nangonzi and Shanitah Namaala.

Nakawala was a no show for Lisa Nasimuyu, winning all the three sets; 11-04, 11-06 and 11-05.

Nangonzi recovered from a shock 04-11 loss to Dorren Juma in opening set to overturn 3-1; winning the rest of the sets 11-09, 11-03 and 11-07.

The third Ugandan,Namaala edged Lydia Setey 3-1. Setey won the opening set 11-07 before Namaala made it recording 11-09, 11-06 and 11-04.

Other games:

Ugandan women team whose head coach is Alvin Katumba had also defeated Djibouti and Kenya 3-0 apiece in the earlier round.

Against Djibouti, Uganda’s Nakawala overcame Houssein Rahma 3-0 (11-07, 11-03 and 11-05).

Patra Nasirumbi beat Kayed Saredo 3-1 (5-11, 11-04, 11-06 and 11-04). Nangonzi stopped Oumar Nassima 3-0 (11-08, 11-07 and 11-06).

“I thank the players for the collective effort to win gold. The preparations were good and I thank our administrators” Uganda’s head coach Katumba stated.

Meanwhile, the Uganda’s men team finished second to take silver after falling 0-3 to Madagascar in the final.

Meanwhile, the single’s championship smashed off on Wednesday, 24th April 2024 and will conclude the following day.

The championship is organized by Uganda Table Tennis Association (UTTA) with support from the ITTF.

Other partners include National Council of Sports (NCS), CASA Miltu Hotel, Blue Berry Travel, Blue Sky Sports Center and Jibu Water.
