St Julian SS kicked out hosts Masaka Secondary School after a successful shootout in the ongoing 2024 USSSA Games at Sports Arena on Friday.

After paying to a goalless draw in the first stanza both sides kept on the wrong foot seeking for an opener but it was nowhere to be seen.

The heavy rains made the game difficult as both sides resorted to a long ball and shooting from a distance.

At the end of the 75 minutes, both sides were sent into spot kicks.

Saviour Jakisa, Patrick Ssenkusu, and Simon Wanyama converted from the 12-yard mark for St Juliana while Erisa Mukasa missed.

Makasa Secondary School’s Peter Matovu hit the penalty in the sky as the hosts sent packing.

St Julian High School head coach Felix Ssekabuuza thanked his players for fighting for glory amidst the unplayable surface.

“I am happy with my players for fighting till the last minute to ensure that we attain glory,” he stated.

“It’s always not easy to face the hosts but we fought and won on such a bad pitch. We are so happy because we have qualified for the East Africa games,” he added.

“We came as underdogs but the team has grown in confidence and I am so proud of the boys. Going forward we shall handle one game at a time.”

In the semifinal, St Julian will face Bukedea Comprehensive on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
