Wakiso Giants close to safety after Gaddafi win, UPDF keep the fight

Wakiso Giants 3-0 Gaddafi

Shariph Kimbowa scored a brace and assisted the other as Wakiso Giants beat Gaddafi 3-0 at Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium to move closer to safety.

Kenneth Kimera scored the other goal inside three minutes beating an offside trap to get at the end of Kimbowa’s through ball for his ninth goal of the season.

Kimbowa turned scorer in the 45th minute scoring a rebound after Samson Kigozi hit the post despite beating goalkeeper Andrew Ssekandi.

The forward, on loan from URA sealed the win in the 90th minute with an exquisite strike on the counter to help Wakiso Giants to 29 points, eight above the last slot of relegation with four matches to play.

On their part, Gaddafi dropped to 15th place with 19 points following UPDF’s win over Soltilo Bright Stars.

Muwanga Bernard scored the game’s only goal from the penalty spot on 49 minutes in Bombo to move UPDF to 21 points. 

However, for them to survive, they must their remaining four matches and hope Busoga falter.

Bright Stars – 10th on 30 points – are not safe yet but a win in the remaining four matches will complete their mission.

The league continues on Sunday with Busoga United visiting Express at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.
