The euphoria at the Makerere University Business School (MUBS) playground was filled in the air on Saturday, 13th April 2024 as match day one of the national Lacrosse league threw off.
Lacrosse enthusiasts (players, officials and fans) turned up at the MUBS playground, the spiritual home of the game in Uganda.
Buroni Panthers and FCA Warriors registered convincing victories on the day.
The Buroni Panthers defeated Kobs Lacrosse Club 14-07 with Liberty Twesiime (also president of Uganda Lacrosse Association) scoring five goals.
Rogers Anywar added four goals and Francis Odong had a brace.
Steven Akena and Benjamin Ojok scored four and three goals for Blink Kobs respectively.
FCA Warriors recorded a 15-09 win over the Jinja Nile Zulus. Amis Kisige (5 goals), John Brian Mukaga (4 goals) and Timothy Munange (3 goals) inspired the FCA Warriors.
Swaibu Meliga (5 goals) and Tristan Kruse (2 goals) recorded the goals for the Jinja Nile Zulus.
The women’s league is expected to start by 27th April 2024.
Match day 1 of the 2024 Uganda National Lacrosse League
Twesiime, the president of Uganda Lacrosse Association (ULA) anticipates a great season with more teams expected to prepare their respective dockets prior to the subsequent match days.
“The 2024 Uganda Lacrosse League officially started and it was a perfect day. We expect great match day ahead as more teams join in” Twesiime stated.
The league returns after four years of inactivity (due to COVID-19 pandemic and administrative challenges).
This league was last played in the year 2019.
