USSSA Games 2024 | Final

St Mary’s Kitende 1-0 Buddo SS

St Mary’s Kitende secured a 1-0 victory against Buddo Secondary School in the USSSA Wakiso Regional Football final at Kabaka Kyabaggu on Sunday.

Kitende finally ended Buddo’s regional dominance with a narrow victory infront of a huge crowd at Wakisha ground.

It was a tight game that gave the crowd a perfect feeling of two sides in a derby fighting for glory, prestige and bragging rights.

Hassan Mubiru fired Kitende ahead with a powerful strike from close range in the 15th minute.

Juma Sajjabi’s curling delivery beat Buddo’s backline to meet Mubiru on the far post who calmed the ball before slotting home.

Ten minutes later, Buddo nearly levelled matters through George Kato but Kitende’s right back Samuel Mubiru made a timely block.

From that point it was a see-saw effort, as either side got a fair share of possession but failed to capitalize on the chances created.

In the second stanza, Kitende got two glorious chances to seal the game but Isa Bugembe and Arafat Nkoola’s effort went narrowly wide of the target.

In the last minutes of the Kitende thought they had doubled their lead through Sajjabi’s freekick but Buddo’s custodian Edrisa Wayibi made a superb save.

With five minutes left on the clock Buddo’s defensive midfielder Ntambi made a nasty challenge on Claude Makenge and he was given a red card.

The third place play off was won by Standard High Zanna who beat Andy Mwesigwa 5-4 after a two-all draw in normal time.

Wakiso Region will be represented by six schools namely; St Mary’s Kitende, Buddo SS, Standard High, Andy Mwesigwa, Kakungulu High and Kyadondo SS in the forthcoming USSSA Nationals that will be hosted by Masaka SS later this month.
