On the day of the unique solar eclipse across the earth, records were also set elsewhere.
In Central Uganda, the sporting sphere recorded a major milestone for St Mathias Kalemba Secondary School Nazigo.
For the first time ever, St Mathias Kalemba SS Nazigo won the football, netball and volleyball (boys) trophies in Kayunga district.

In all the finals, St Mathias Kalemba SS Nazigo tormented their arch rivals Namagabi Secondary School.
Zahidu Kasango scored the winning goal as St Mathias Kalemba SS Nazigo clinched the football gold, with a 1-0 score on a flooded Ntenjeru playground following rainy conditions before a record mammoth gathering.
Kasango tapped home from close range after a diving header from danger man Francis Ssembatya had been saved by the goalkeeper.

“I am more than happy for this victory. I thank my players, the school management and our fans for this achievement. It was purely due to good planning, hard work and commitment. Focus now turns to the upcoming regional championships in Buikwe district” Isaac “Ozil” Kitakuule, St Kalemba’s head coach revealed.
St Mathias Kalemba was also victorious in Netball and Boys’ Volleyball winning over Namagabi SS in both finals 25-21 and 3-2 respectively.
Towering Angellina Nyemok Rieng, an S1 student was the star attraction and talis woman for the winning team.
Volleyball and Netball were played on the morning of Tuesday, 9th April 2024 after heavy rains on the day before.
St Mathias Kalemba SS head teacher David Constantine Kawuma attributed the victory to great planning and investment by the school management into the sports sector.
“This victory means a lot for the entire family of St Mathias Kalemba Secondary School. We have worked hard, planned well and invested immensely. To us, the sky remains as the limit” an overwhelmed Kawuma disclosed to Kawowo Sports.
In girls’ football, Hopeful Future Secondary School won the championship.
Buikwe will host the football regional championships with three top schools from Kayunga, Mukono and Buikwe districts targeting the berths at the 2024 USSSA football nationals in Masaka city.
