The motorsport governing body FMU has in recent weeks been burdened by governance issues. From a pending ruling in national courts to the matters reaching the Inspector General of Government, so much has rocked the past Dipu Ruparelia tenure.

All these controversies relate to the court issues and upcoming elections, and are being fronted by former rally driver Geoffrey Nsamba.

Nsamba early this month petitioned the Natinal Council of Sports (NCS) beseeching the council to cause action on what he reffered to as an illegal and unlawful electoral process by FMU.

“We request therefore that your good office expressly stops the unlawful electoral processes by and or FMU with immediate effect,” reads an excerpt of the letter.

Nsamba’s arguments arise from the fact that there are still pending cases in court, which decision will determine the fate of the elections.

However, NCS has sent Nsamba to address his issues where they belong; to the FMU annual general assembly.

“Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda is a private body and was incorporated as Trust under Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development. The mandate of NCS is regulatory in nature and has no mandate to stop the electoral process of FMU,” reads the letter to Nsamba’s lawyers.

“NCS is cognizant of the internationally recognized principle of sports autonomy and government non-interference in affairs of National Sports Federation/ Associations. The said mandate is a reserve of the Annual General of the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda as per their Constitution and guiding statute,” it continued.
