Game 1: Uganda W v Scotland W

Scotland 161/3

Uganda 52 all out

Scotland W won by 109 runs

Uganda’s Victoria Pearls fell extremely short of their standards in their opening Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers game against Scotland.

The higher-ranked Scotland put the Victoria Pearls to the sword in a one-sided encounter.

Uganda won the toss and elected to bowl first under the lights but they failed to put sustained pressure on the Scottish batting lineup.

Evelyn Anyipo started things off well but those are the most dot balls Uganda was able to garner. From thereon, Scotland took its chances attacking the bowling and along the way, they were helped by some poor fielding as the Victoria Pearls failed to hold onto eight catches, missed a couple of run outs and missed stumping which enabled Scotland to put on a big total.

A 95-run partnership between Saskia Horley (61) and Aisla Lister (55) anchored the innings for the side both picking up half-centuries in the process. Sarah Akiteng (1/31) and Immaculate Nakisuyi (1/29) were among the wickets while the other was a run out.

Consy Aweko was outstanding with the ball even when the slog was on but there was no support from others who struggled with their lengths allowing the Scottish to score freely.

In the run chase, the poor form with the bat continued. Proscovia Alako was dismissed without troubling the scorers with the team reduced to 23/5 inside seven overs. Only Phiona Khulume (16) got into double figures as wickets fell around her. Uganda were eventually bundled for just 53, losing by 109 runs.
