Uganda’s para powerlifter Muhammad Nigo clinched three medals at the on-going Pattaya Para Powerlifting world cup in Thailand.

Nigo won a gold medal and two silver medals in the different categories he participated in for the legends category under the 80Kg cluster.

In the same weight group, Safalu Tamale finished fourth overall for the elite category.

The other athlete Dennis Mbazira will compete in the 88 kg cluster on Friday morning.

Head coach Kenneth Ssekilanda is humbled for Uganda’s performance thus far at the championship.

“It is so far so good. With three medals won, we are good to go. Mbaziira (Dennis) competes on Friday in the 88 Kg category and we expect a good performance. The event tomorow is very important for us to determine the qualification to the Paralympics in France.” Ssekilanda remarks.

The event is also a key qualifier for the Paris Paralympic Games (28th August to 8th September 2024) in Paris city, France.

After the event in Thailand, there will be two more events in Mexico and Georgia before the main Paralympic Games.

The Parapan American World cup will take place between 23rd to 26th May 2024 in Acapulco city, Mexico.

The last championship before the Paralympics will be the Tbilisi World Cup (20th to 26th June 2024) in Georgia.
