USSSA boys’ football defending champions St Mary’s Boarding School Kitende etched closer to a successful title defence after skidding past the quarter final hurdle.

A 2-0 victory over crowd darling Blessed Sacrament Kimanya during the quarter finals on Friday secured the path to the last four stage.

Burly forward Isa Bugembe and intelligent defender Ronald Madoi scored the goals for St Mary’s Kitende before hundreds of fans at the Kitovu Arena playground.

St Mary’s Kitende thus progressed to the semi-finals where they will face Jinja Progressive who humbled Amus College School 3-0 in the quarter finals.

Amus College School had won a petition over Jinja SS for fielding an ineligible player.

In other semi-final duels, debutants St Julian High School Seeta ejected hosts Masaka SS 3-2 in post-match penalties after normal time had ended goal-less.

Another quarter final clash was determined via spot-kicks when Bukedea Comprehensive out-shot a hard-fighting Kisozi Seed 5-4 following yet another goal-less affair.

The semi-finals come on Saturday, 4th May 2024 ahead of Sunday’s grand finale. The tournament lured as many as 64 schools from across the country.

The best five schools will represent Uganda at this year’s East African Games due in Bukedea region.
