Lugazi Football Club, Makumbi part ways

It is the final bend of the 2023-2024 betPawa FUFA Big League and the temperatures are reaching the peak boiling point.

A week after Mbale Heroes Football Club separated ties with their entire coaching wing, another entity, Lugazi FC has sacked head coach Richard Makumbi.

A statement released by the club indicated that these two parties had mutually agreed to cut off their working relationship with immediate effect.

Assistant coach Gerald Efit, a former player at the same club will steer the club on interim basis until the replacement is identified and named.

Lugazi Football Club wrote; “…after a thorough evaluation of the team’s performance and future direction. Makumbi leaves with our sincerest thanks for his tireless efforts as head coach and our very best wishes for the future…”

The spark of Makumbi’s departure arose from a string of inconsistent results with the latest 1-all draw with Kyetume envisaged as the push factor.

Makumbi has a record for helping a number of club attain promotion to the Uganda Premier League as SCOUL (1995), Iganga Town Council – (1996), Mukono Lions (1997), Buikwe Red Stars (2004), Fire Masters (2005), Bunamwaya (now Vipers) in 2006, Bidco (BUL) in 2011, UTODA, SOANA, Mbarara City (2016), Western Stima (2018) and Kitara Football Club.
