Final: Buddo SS vs St Mary’s Kitende
For the sixth consecutive time, Buddo SSS will be playing against St Mary’s Kitende in the final of the USSSA Wakiso Zonal Qualifiers.
At this point, it’s easy to think that its boring and a one way traffic show but St Mary’s Kitende will be out to end Buddo’s dominance in the region.
For starters, Kitende last won Wakiso’s trophy in 2018 and they will badly want to end the regional trophy drought.
In 2019, Frank Sebufu’s lonely strike awarded Buddo SS a 1-0 victory against Kitende in a tight duel.
After two years without action due to Covid, Buddo went on to edge Kitende in spot kicks to lift the trophy in 2022.
In 2023, George Kato and Denis Kisiriko scored for Buddo while Abdul Nsereko finds Kitende only goal. That was Buddo’s straight regional accolade on a bounce.
Kitende hungry for glory
Looking at the ongoing title, Kitende are hungry for glory and badly want to end Buddo’s regional dominance.
Kitende head coach Daniel Male believes it’s only team work and hardwork that will see them walk to the podium as victors.
“I thank the boys for fighting till this level however it’s hardwork and teamwork that will give us the long awaited Wakiso title,” he stated.
Looking at the numbers, Kitende has so-far scored 38 goals and conceded none in the eight games played thus far.
Kisiriko’s switch from Buddo to Kitende has paid off positively since the agile forward has so-far netted 10 goals.
On the other hand, Buddo has lost a number of their star players as well as head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa.
But them walking to the finals is a testament that their fuel tank is not yet empty. The question still stands; Can Kitende end Buddo’s regional dominance?
