St Noa 67-49 St Mary’s Kitende

St Noa Girls Secondary School, Zana secured a 67-49 victory against holders St Mary’s Boarding School, Kitende in the Wakiso Regional Girls Basketball final at Wakisha Resource Centre on Sunday.

St Noa opened a 16-point lead (23-7) to clearly show their intentions and hunger for the basketball crown in front of a huge crowd.

The Zanna-based side widened the lead with 24 points (39-15) as both sides went into the long break as either camp kept rallying behind their girls.

After the half-time break, Kitende resorted to long shorts but midway through the quarter St Noa equally responded emphatically.

At the end of four quarters of thrilling basketball, St Noa registered an 18-point victory before they resorted to chants and dances in jubilation.

Resty Nanangwe led St Noa’s scoring chart dropping 26 points and pulling down nine rebounds while Zoe Atek bossed the paint making 12 rebounds.

For Kitende, only Josephine Najjuko and Mariam Namukwaya scored a double-digit dropping 14 and 10 points respectively.

The victory guided St Noa to the podium to pick gold for the first time since 2019 when they edged Kitende by only two points.

The two sides will be joined by Buddo SS and Mbogo Mixed Secondary School to represent the region in the forthcoming USSSA Games that will be played in Ndejje, Luwero later this month.
