Vipers moved to within three points of log leaders Kitara after seeing off UPDF 2-1 at Kitende on Friday.

Allan Okello and Eric Kambale scored the goals for the champions before Robert Vvuni scored late to cause a tense finish.

The former KCCA star opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a curling effort after good inter play with Bright Anukani and Kambale doubled the lead ten minutes after recess.

Vipers had dominated proceedings and created several opportunities but missed them.

Vvuni then punished their profligacy by halving the deficit in the 71st minute but despite a late surge from the army side which remain second from bottom with 16 points, the Venoms held on for all points to climb to second place with 41 points.

They have played two games less than Kitara who sit top ahead of the visit to SC Villa on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, KCCA rallied to beat Gaddafi 2-1 in Jinja while Maroons and Mbarara City fired blanks at Kakyeeka.

The league continues on Saturday with BUL hosting Wakiso Giants and Express at home to David Obua’s URA.
