KOBs and Walukuba Barbarians played some breathtaking rugby on Saturday afternoon at Legends Rugby Grounds.

Systematic plays off set pieces, choreographed phases in open play, and beautiful tries at the end of them. When it was free-range, players from both teams put their individual qualities on show.

It was simply exciting to watch.

KOBs won, 30-20, to finish what has been a tumultuous regular season on a high. In the first half, youngsters Benjamin Muwanguzi and Calvin Gizamba scored a try each while Josiah Ssempeke kicked two conversions and two penalties. Trevor Maina scored the lone try in the second half and Ssempeke added a conversion and a penalty to the scoreboard.

But Walukuba, whose regular season can be summarised as “too close yet so far”, gave them a run for their money. Tries by Ivan Bulima and Isaah Luqman, plus two conversions and two penalties from Gift Wokorach kept them in the game.

At some point, it was tied at seventeen-all but KOBs, with less possession, were more efficient with ball in hand and got rewarded with the victory. Ultimately, Walukuba missed the consolation losing bonus point from a match they could have won.
